"It would be SWEET if you would go to HOMECOMING with me" Cookie.

Remember when we were kids and you just simply got up the nerve to ask a girl to a dance?
(or a boy to a Sadie Hawkins Dance...)

Yes, it was stressful and nerve wracking, but these days?
You have to make some grand gesture!

It used to be that they did this for Prom, but now homecoming, too?

Funnier thing?
Even if you have been dating for 6 months, and you already know you're going,
I mean you have the dress, the shoes, the tie.  You even know where you're having dinner....
You still have to come up with some clever way to ask.

My daughter, Kenzie, has been dating her boyfriend, Austin since early last Spring.
She has been so stressed out about what to do to ask him.
She had her idea all ready to go, and someone at school used it.
She didn't want to "copy!"
So, I suggested the idea you see here.

pizza-boxed up

She got a small pizza box and she (yea...we will go with SHE...not ME...decorated the cookie)
She was so excited to surprise him with it last night.
She closed the lid on the box, and sat it on the stove.

This is my daughter, Kenzie and her boyfriend, Austin.

Really couldn't ask for a sweeter guy for her to be dating!!
(Austin, if you are reading this... take care of her and BE GOOD!!!)

So, they go to different schools and if you think it's hard for a girl to come up with an idea like this, how about a teenage boy?!?

So, yesterday, when he came over, he texted her from the driveway and said he was here.
She ran out to the drive, and he was standing there with roses and a poster board.

I stole these photos from her twitter account! ;)

Can you believe that she didn't whip her cell phone out right there and take his picture?!?!?!
NOOOOOOOOOO!!

I wasn't even here!!

Of course, I totally had it pictured like this:

but I am a child of the 80's....
When I think of homecoming dances I think of dancing to "Crazy for You" by Madonna.

So, to make a short story even longer....
he walks in the kitchen  (Austin ALWAYS the SHY one.... )

Sees the box and says "Oooooo! PIZZA!!"

Walks over and opens the box, and sees his homecoming cookie!!

All in all it turned out well, I just wish I could have witnessed in person!!

So, if your teen is looking for a good idea...go ahead and steal it!

Happy Homecoming, everyone!!

where I have been the last two months....

Hi, everyone!!

I have been missing for a couple months, and I thought I would let you know in a nutshell what
I have been up to!!

I think my last post was Easter!!
Wow!!
That was a while ago....

I love working in the yard in the spring, planting flowers and watching everything start
peeking out of the ground.
This year, we needed to have some concrete replaced on our existing patio, and decided to do an addition, adding some more room, a fire pit and a seat wall.

our new sitting area

we added larger wrap around steps to the back of the house

got a great gas heater so we can use our new space longer...

LOVE my porch swing.
That was made by my husband in shop class in high school.
A couple of years ago for Mother's Day, he had it refurbished and a frame built for it.
(is he great or what?!?)

Hadn't been to one in quite a while, then all of the sudden I had three in three weeks!!

You have heard me mention my best friend, (my sister!!) Teresa,  in previous blogs.
Her husband, Kris is the guitar tech for Ryan Peake of Nickelback.

Whenever they come to Omaha, Teresa flies in from California to see her Mom and I (and her hubby!!)

Kris gave us total rockstar VIP treatment this year at the show!

The next weekend, we hosted an Engagement Party/Couple's shower for Austin and Leah.

Last, but certainly not least, I would like to share with you a journey I begun exactly 8 weeks ago today.

Now you know I love to cook... but I apparently had no self-control when it came to EATING all of the yumminess I have been sharing with you over the last year.

Slowly but surely, all of my pants got tighter and tighter.

I kept saying that I would do something about it "next week."

Well, next week came and went and I baked more and more.

Finally I decided it was past time for me to be doing SOMETHING!!

So, I talked with my niece, Leah and my sister in law, Sue, and said, if we are going to start losing this weight for Leah's wedding, we have about 5 months to do it!!

(Chop chop, ladies!!)

So, I decided that I would attend a meeting at a local place called
"Family's Achieving Success Together"

I have known two people that have had major success, one lost 90 pounds
the other is half way to her goal of 50.

When we went to our first meeting 8 weeks ago, Brian's cousin Amy was there, too.
So we have a little TEAM going!!
So far, our team together has roughly lost 85 pounds!!

What appealed to me was that I can eat anything that I want, I just have to keep track of it all.
and EXERCISE!!

Well, once we started, I stopped blogging.
Not because I didn't miss the heck out of you guys, but I was in the learning process of something I really want to succeed at.

I always envied you bloggers that were disciplined and exercised.
I am happy to report that I have just completed my 56th consecutive day of exercise.

Would you believe I have put 221.83 miles on these tennis shoes of mine?!?!?
Thank goodness the hubster got me some "new kicks" for my birthday!
The others were denigrating!!

I, myself, have lost 27.4 pounds and am half way to my goal.

I feel like I have gotten a handle on my life and my eating, even though I have a ways to go.

So, I plan on blogging again, and sharing more yummy things with you!!

I would like to give you my sincere thanks for sticking with me through my journey!!

Lastly, I celebrated my birthday this past weekend, and enjoyed every minute of it!!

Happiness = Something We Create

This morning my husband and I had a meeting with our financial advisor.  After and hour or so of chatting about 401K's and mortgages and college tuition for four kids, my mind was racing.  This afternoon it got me thinking, just about bills and whatnot.

How often do we go to the mailbox and find something other than a bill?

"...I believe that happiness is something we create..."

I grew up with pen pals and writing notes.  Many of these said notes I still have to this day. My daughter is going to be a freshman next year, and I wish I could tell you how many times she has told me she wished she grew up in the time that I did. (Well, the 80's were cool! ;) ) What do they have? Texting. Nothing to save and look back and think to yourself 25 years later, wow, that was silly!

I am a firm believer in thank you cards, birthday cards, Christmas cards and presents. Heck, Hallmark loves me! I have tried to instill this "old fashioned art" in my kids.  I just believe that it's important. Maybe it's because my own mother calls to thank me for her thank you card that I sent her?  Many times I send cards just because I saw it and it reminded me of someone, so I pop it in the mail,
because who doesn't like to get "fun mail?!"  Nobody, that's who.

I have a couple girlfriends that we periodically send each other stuff in the mail. One of my friends, who lives about 8 hours away, was planning to send me something she painted for me for my birthday this month. When she got to the post office, it was going to cost her an arm and a leg to get it here! (literally, they wanted to take her arm and her leg!! ... just joking...but you know how high the post office can be.)

As luck would have it, her daughter met a friend of hers half way in between our houses last weekend, and he brought me the gift tonight, special delivery to my porch. Not only was it wrapped beautifully, it had a hand made card.  Swoon.

She and I met half way last year and spent the weekend together shopping and goofing around, and seeing Sugarland in concert.  I have seen Sugarland 4 times and I never tire of them! We had such a great time!  One of my favorite songs by Sugarland is "Something More."  I have preached and preached to my friends and myself these words so many times. "some believe in destiny and some believe in fate, I believe that happiness is something is something we create."

Words to live by, my friends.

Never heard the song? Here's the video!

So, to my friend, thank you.  Thank you for reaffirming my belief in friends, in music and lyrics, for singing back to me words I believe in with my whole heart, we make our own happiness and for just plain putting a smile on my face. :)
